About Us

The Geography Department initiated its undergraduate program in the academic year 1994-1995, followed by the introduction of the master's program in the academic year 1996-1997. Finally, the doctoral program was introduced in the academic year 2008-2009. The department comprises two main branches: Human and Economic Geography, and Physical Geography.

The primary objectives of the Geography Department can be summarized as follows:

  1. To scientifically investigate natural processes within the physical environment and explore the relationships between these processes in terms of time and space.
  2. To analyze the spatial and temporal characteristics of social and economic activities.
  3. To understand the connections between human activities and natural systems.

Our students have the opportunity to engage in practical work in various public institutions such as MGM, MTA, DPT, DSİ, OGM, and TÜİK, as well as in the private sector. Furthermore, efforts are being made to enhance opportunities in the private sector, particularly in the field of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications. Upon successful completion of the four-year undergraduate program, graduates of the Geography Department are awarded the title of "Geographer".
